We all know that wearing your favorite sunhat or lathering a sunscreen of choice is a great way to fight the harmful UVA and UVB rays the sun emits. However did you ever consider that the foods you eat can also protect you from sunburns and some forms of skin cancer?
1.) Coffee: Not only does only does your favorite cup of joe give you a nice pick-me up in the morning but it can also lower your chance of malignant melanoma by 20% if you have 4 or more cups of coffee a day!
2.) Fish: Fish oil is known to boost the immune system which can help fight against the potential growth of cancer cells.
3.) Leafy Greens: A recent study showed that they more dark, leafy veggies people ate (think spinach or kale), the lower their risk of skin cancer due to the carotenoids that act as antioxidants.
4.) Tomatoes: A small study showed that people who incorporated tomato paste into their diets had less sunburn than those that didn’t!
5.) Citrus Zest: Citrus zest contains a substance known as limonene, which has been known to inhibit the early development of cancer.
