Anatomy of Design: Mott 50 – Featured on The Tig
July 16, 2015
Being equal parts fashionable and practical are high on my list. Sure, I love a Giovanna Battaglia inspired outfit, but at the end of the day my personal style skews slightly more relaxed than that. Chic and simple – that’s my go-to. Cue the brand, Mott 50, which offers a fashion forward line of sun protective apparel. Yep – the clothes have SPF in them. *Drop the mic*
Founding partners, Monique Hypes and Anne Reilly, conceptualized the idea for Mott 50 while on the beach in the Hamptons. Launched in 2011, Mott 50 exceeds the average garment by offering stylish, relaxed apparel & accessories with a certification of 50 UPF (ultraviolet protection factor). Speaking of certification, I am certifiably obsessed with this smart and nouveau-classic line. Keep on reading to see how you can win one of my very favorite pieces from the collection. Cheers to looking good and taking care of that beautiful body of yours! Built in summertime SPF? Oh, yes please and thank you.
We set out to create a fashionable line of clothing with the added benefit of 50 UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) to ward off premature aging & skin cancer. Our inspiration and drive was largely born from a void in our own wardrobes. Anne and I spend an extensive amount of time outdoors or traveling and wanted a smarter solution for continued sun protection.
The Design Process
We seek design inspiration from our daily lives spent coast to coast & in-between – Cape Cod to California to Chicago.. I recently started an urban garden and have since started designing new sun hats & garments with high collars. Similarly, Anne is a mom of two (soon to be 3) little ones! She was instrumental in the designing of Mini Mott 50, children’s apparel with 50 UPF.
